Green Acid® / SCALE-OVER™

Biodegradable Catalyzed Acid Technology for Industrial Descaling, Derusting and Equipment Cleaning

Advanced Cleaning Chemistry

Powerful scale removal / Controlled equipment protection

Green Acid® is a concentrated, non-oxidizing cleaning acid developed for removing mineral scale, rust and inorganic deposits from industrial water systems and equipment.

Green Acid® combines acid-cleaning performance with scale inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors, surfactants and a visible color indicator. It is intended for dissolving deposits such as calcium carbonate, gypsum, calcium phosphate, calcium oxalate and metal oxides from pipelines, tanks, boilers, heat exchangers, cooling systems and other compatible equipment. Its low vapor pressure helps reduce acid fumes and gas-phase corrosion compared with volatile mineral acids. SCALE-OVER™ is the formulated working solution based on Green Acid® technology for direct industrial descaling and cleaning applications.

Fast descaling / Low-vapor cleaning technology

Green Acid Introduction

One cleaning chemistry.
Multiple industrial applications.

Green Acid® and SCALE-OVER™ can be used in properly controlled circulation, soaking, spray-cleaning and equipment-maintenance procedures after confirming deposit composition and material compatibility.

Cooling Towers and Chillers

Removes mineral deposits and corrosion products from compatible cooling circuits, fill material, piping and heat-transfer surfaces.

Boilers and Heating Systems

Helps dissolve deposits that restrict water flow and reduce heat-transfer efficiency.

Heat Exchangers and Condensers

Cleans scale from internal passages and heat-transfer surfaces without mechanical dismantling where circulation cleaning is suitable.

Pipelines, Pumps and Process Equipment

Removes rust, carbonate scale and accumulated inorganic deposits from compatible industrial equipment.

Water Tanks and Reservoirs

Supports the removal of iron and manganese deposits from emptied and isolated water-storage surfaces.

Mining and Heavy-Industry Equipment

Cleans scale and mineral deposits from suitable equipment used in mining, mineral processing and industrial water operations.

Four cleaning functions / Engineered into one formulation

H⁺

Mineral-scale dissolution (ACID-ACTIVE)

Acidic species react with susceptible carbonate, phosphate, sulfate and metal-oxide deposits, helping transfer the dissolved components into the cleaning solution.

Inhibited metal cleaning (CORRO-GUARD)

A corrosion-inhibitor package is designed to reduce attack on compatible base metals during properly controlled cleaning.

Wetting and deposit penetration (DEPOSIT-LIFT)

Surfactants improve contact between the cleaning solution and deposit surface, supporting penetration, dispersion and removal.

Visible activity indication (COLOR-CONTROL)

A trace-color system provides a visual indication of solution condition and can help operators recognize when the cleaning solution is becoming exhausted.

The chemistry behind controlled descaling

Green Acid® uses acidic dissolution, surface wetting and corrosion inhibition to remove mineral deposits while limiting unnecessary damage to compatible equipment materials.

  • Carbonate-Scale Dissolution – Acid reacts with calcium carbonate scale ($CaCO_3 + 2H^+ \rightarrow Ca^{2+} + H_2O + CO_2\uparrow$), producing soluble calcium, water and carbon dioxide gas.
  • Metal-Oxide and Rust Removal – Acidic conditions dissolve susceptible iron oxides and hydroxides for easy removal during circulation and rinsing.
  • Deposit Penetration and Dispersion – Surfactants lower surface tension and improve wetting, helping the solution penetrate porous deposits and carry loosened solids away.
  • Corrosion-Inhibition Mechanism – Inhibitors adsorb on compatible metal surfaces to reduce acid attack, depending on concentration, temperature, time, alloy and solution condition.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Essential information about Green Acid®, SCALE-OVER™ and controlled industrial cleaning.

Contact Support
What is Green Acid®?
Green Acid® is a concentrated, non-oxidizing acidic cleaning product intended for industrial descaling, derusting and deposit removal.
What is SCALE-OVER™?
SCALE-OVER™ is the formulated cleaning product based on Green Acid® chemistry. It incorporates cleaning and surface-protection additives for direct descaling applications.
Which deposits can it remove?
The product is promoted for calcium carbonate, gypsum, calcium phosphate, calcium oxalate, rust, iron oxide, manganese deposits and mixed mineral scale. A deposit analysis is recommended before major cleaning.
Where can Green Acid® be used?
Potential applications include cooling towers, boilers, heat exchangers, chillers, pipelines, pumps, tanks and mining equipment, subject to compatibility and operating approval.
Is Green Acid® non-corrosive?
It contains corrosion inhibitors intended to reduce metal attack, but no acid should be described as universally non-corrosive. Compatibility depends on the alloy, concentration, temperature and exposure time.
What working concentration should be used?
The existing literature refers to approximately 5–10% active cleaning solutions. The correct concentration must be selected from the current label or a site-specific cleaning procedure.
How long should the cleaning solution remain in contact?
Contact time can range from minutes to several hours depending on deposit thickness, composition, temperature, circulation and solution strength.
How can operators determine when the cleaner is exhausted?
The formulated product includes a color indicator. Color should be used together with pH, dissolved-metal measurements and inspection—not as the only endpoint criterion.
Is Green Acid® biodegradable?
The brochure claims ready biodegradability according to OECD 301 and 306. The applicable laboratory reports and the exact tested formulation should be available to support this claim.
Can Green Acid® be mixed with hydrogen peroxide?
Do not mix it with peroxide or any oxidizer unless the current SDS and a validated Watch Water procedure explicitly authorize the specific concentrations and order of addition.
Can the spent cleaning solution be discharged directly?
No automatic discharge approval should be assumed. The spent solution may contain low pH, dissolved metals and contaminants and must be characterized, neutralized and managed under local regulations.
What safety precautions are required?
Use chemical-resistant gloves, goggles or a face shield, protective clothing and suitable ventilation. Always follow the SDS and add acid concentrate slowly to water.
