INSTANT POOL COVER®

Self-spreading monolayer technology for reducing water and heat loss through evaporation

Water Conservation

An invisible surface layer designed to reduce evaporation.

INSTANT POOL COVER® is a highly soluble powdered concentrate that is diluted before application to form an ultra-thin, self-spreading layer across a water surface.

Evaporation causes water, heat and treatment chemicals to be lost from swimming pools, reservoirs and other open water bodies. INSTANT POOL COVER® is prepared as a 5% solution and applied directly to the surface. Its surface-active molecules orient at the air–water interface, creating a monomolecular film intended to slow the escape of water molecules. Unlike a solid cover, the layer is invisible and can redistribute after minor surface disturbance. Performance depends on wind, wave action, filtration, swimmers, rainfall, temperature, humidity and reapplication frequency.

Instant Pool Cover Introduction

One surface-film technology.
Multiple water-conservation applications.

INSTANT POOL COVER® can be evaluated for managed water surfaces where evaporation represents a significant operational or water-resource loss.

Residential Swimming Pools

Water and heat conservation for private outdoor and indoor swimming pools.

Commercial and Hotel Pools

Reducing chemical, energy and refill costs for heavily utilized hotel and resort pools.

Municipal Water Storage

Evaporation mitigation for managed municipal water reservoirs and storage basins.

Agricultural Storage Ponds

Preserving precious water supplies in irrigation ponds across dry and drought-prone regions.

Industrial Reservoirs

Controlling water loss in industrial cooling ponds and managed process-water basins.

Lakes and Lagoons

Evaluating surface film application for managed decorative water features and lagoons.

Four water-conservation functions / Inside one surface treatment

Ultra-thin molecular barrier (MONO-LAYER)

Surface-active molecules arrange at the air–water boundary, creating a film intended to reduce the rate at which water molecules enter the atmosphere.

Automatic surface distribution (SELF-SPREAD)

After application, the working solution spreads across calm water surfaces without installing or mechanically deploying a physical cover.

Reduced evaporative heat loss (HEAT-HOLD)

Because evaporation removes heat from water, lowering evaporation can help reduce energy demand in heated-pool applications.

Reduced refill demand (WATER-SAVE)

Effective surface coverage may reduce makeup-water requirements and the associated loss of heat and treatment chemicals.

How a monomolecular film slows evaporation

INSTANT POOL COVER® does not form a solid sheet. It uses surface-active molecules that orient themselves into an extremely thin layer at the water–air interface.

  • Surface Orientation – Amphiphilic molecules contain water-attracting and water-repelling sections, orienting into an ordered monolayer at the surface.
  • Evaporation Resistance – Adds resistance to water-vapour transfer, reducing evaporation rather than stopping it completely.
  • Self-Spreading Behaviour – Surface-tension forces redistribute the film across calm water after local disturbance (wind, waves, swimmers or filtration may disrupt the layer).
  • Heat Conservation – Evaporation requires latent heat; reducing evaporation lowers heat loss in heated outdoor pools.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Essential information about INSTANT POOL COVER® preparation, performance, safety and reapplication.

Contact Support
What is INSTANT POOL COVER®?
It is a powdered concentrate that is diluted and applied to water to create an ultra-thin, self-spreading evaporation-control layer.
Is it a physical pool cover?
No. It forms an invisible molecular film and does not provide the safety, debris protection or insulation of a solid cover.
Does it stop evaporation completely?
No. It is intended to reduce evaporation. Performance changes with climate, turbulence, circulation and application frequency.
How is the working solution prepared?
The brochure specifies mixing 1 kg of powder with 20 L of water to create a 5% solution.
How much should be applied?
The brochure does not specify a dose per square metre. This information must be added to the technical data sheet before use.
How often should it be reapplied?
The brochure recommends weekly application or as required. Wind, swimmers, rainfall and overflow may require more frequent treatment.
Can swimmers use the pool after treatment?
Only after swimmer-safety testing and applicable pool-treatment approval confirm the dose, waiting period and exposure limits.
Does it affect chlorine or pool chemistry?
Any surface-active product can potentially affect disinfectant demand, foaming or filtration. These effects should be evaluated under real pool conditions.
Can it replace a solid safety cover?
No. It does not prevent accidental entry, retain debris or meet safety-cover requirements.
Can it be used on lakes and reservoirs?
Only after ecological and regulatory review. Large natural water bodies have wind, waves, aquatic organisms and gas-exchange requirements not present in swimming pools.
Is it biodegradable and safe for aquatic life?
These claims require complete formulation disclosure, recognised biodegradation testing and acute and chronic aquatic-toxicity studies.
How should performance be measured?
Compare makeup-water use or measured evaporation against a weather-adjusted baseline under similar operating conditions.
