ACTIVESORB®-AG

Silver-impregnated coconut-shell activated carbon for adsorption and bacteriostatic media protection

Silver-Impregnated Activated Carbon

Advanced adsorption with bacteriostatic protection inside the filter bed

ACTIVESORB®-AG is a high-activity, silver-impregnated granular activated carbon manufactured from selected coconut shells.

Steam activation develops an extensive microporous structure for reducing chlorine, taste, odor, color and selected dissolved organic impurities. The silver incorporated into the carbon provides bacteriostatic properties that help inhibit bacterial colonization and biological growth on the filter media. High hardness, optimized density and low dust support clean, reliable operation in point-of-entry, point-of-use, residential, food and beverage, and specialized water-purification systems.

Cleaner water / More hygienic filter-media operation

ACTIVESORB-AG Introduction

Adsorption and bacteriostatic protection.
Across critical water applications.

ACTIVESORB®-AG is intended for systems in which conventional activated-carbon adsorption is required and uncontrolled biological growth on moist filter media may become a concern.

Drinking-Water Purification

Reduction of chlorine, taste, odor, color and selected adsorbable organic impurities.

Point-of-Entry Systems

Whole-building activated-carbon filtration with bacteriostatic protection of the media bed.

Point-of-Use Purifiers

Compact cartridge and under-counter water-purification applications.

Food and Beverage Processing

Treatment of process water for beverages, dispensers and food preparation.

Pharmaceutical Water Systems

Polishing applications where hygienic media operation is important and system validation is provided.

Dispensers and Specialty Equipment

Water coolers, coffee machines, laboratory polishing units and aquarium-treatment systems.

Four protective functions engineered into one carbon media

Ag

Bacteriostatic Media Protection (SILVER-GUARD™)

Trace silver incorporated into the carbon helps inhibit bacterial colonization and biological growth on the surface of the filter media.

MP

High-Activity Micropore Adsorption (MICROPORE-AG™)

Steam-activated coconut-shell carbon provides an extensive microporous surface for adsorption of taste, odor, color and selected dissolved organic compounds.

CC

Rapid Dechlorination (CHLOR-CAPTURE™)

High-activity carbon surfaces support rapid free-chlorine reduction when adequate contact time and appropriate operating conditions are provided.

CB

Hard, Low-Dust Granules (CLEAN-BED™)

High ball-pan hardness, optimized density and low dust help reduce particle breakdown and support clearer filter startup and stable fixed-bed operation.

Science & Technology

ACTIVESORB®-AG combines physical adsorption by activated carbon with the bacteriostatic action of trace silver on the media surface.

  • Steam-Activated Coconut Shell – Selected coconut shells are steam activated under controlled conditions to develop high internal surface area and a predominantly microporous structure.
  • Adsorption within Micropores – Organic molecules and taste- and odor-causing compounds diffuse into the carbon’s pore network, where intermolecular forces retain them on the internal surface.
  • Silver-Based Bacteriostatic Action – Silver ions can interfere with microbial enzymes, membranes and replication processes, inhibiting bacterial colonization of the carbon media.
  • Dual-Function Filter Protection – The carbon reduces adsorbable contaminants while the silver helps control growth on the media, supporting more hygienic filter-bed operation.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Essential information about ACTIVESORB®-AG performance, silver technology, applications and safe operation.

Contact Support
What is ACTIVESORB®-AG?
It is a silver-impregnated, coconut-shell granular activated carbon designed to combine contaminant adsorption with bacteriostatic protection of the filter media.
Why is silver incorporated into the carbon?
The silver helps inhibit bacterial colonization and biological growth on the carbon surface, particularly when the media remains wet between operating cycles.
Does ACTIVESORB®-AG disinfect water?
It should not be presented as a standalone disinfectant. Its primary silver-related function is bacteriostatic protection of the media. A validated disinfection barrier is still required where microbiological safety must be guaranteed.
Does the product remove bacteria and viruses?
The available brochure does not provide validated log-reduction data for bacteria, viruses or protozoa. Pathogen-removal claims should not be made without testing against an applicable microbiological standard.
Which water-quality problems can it address?
It can help reduce chlorine, taste, odor, color and selected adsorbable organic impurities while helping inhibit bacterial growth on the carbon media.
What is the published silver content?
The available technical table displays 0.01–0.05%. The precise specification and whether multiple silver grades are available should be confirmed with Watch Water.
Is silver released into the treated water?
Silver release should be confirmed through product-specific leaching data under the expected pH, contact time and water chemistry. Avoid stating “no leaching” without supporting test results.
What is the standard particle size?
The published standard grade is 8×30 mesh, corresponding to approximately 0.600–2.36 mm.
Does the media require rinsing before operation?
Yes. The media should be wetted and rinsed or backwashed according to an approved startup procedure until loose carbon fines are removed and the water runs clear.
How long does ACTIVESORB®-AG last?
Service life depends on chlorine and organic loading, flow rate, contact time, microbiological conditions and breakthrough criteria. It should be determined through monitoring rather than a fixed replacement period.
Can ACTIVESORB®-AG be regenerated?
Regeneration should not be recommended without a product-specific procedure demonstrating that adsorption capacity is restored without damaging the silver impregnation or creating unacceptable silver release.
How is ACTIVESORB®-AG typically used?
Typical applications include drinking-water purification, POE and POU systems, residential purifiers, food and beverage equipment, dispensers and appropriately validated pharmaceutical or laboratory polishing systems.
