LeachOxy™

Integrated oxidation, filtration and adsorption technology for advanced landfill-leachate treatment

Advanced Leachate Treatment

Transform complex landfill leachate into manageable, treatable water

LeachOxy™ is an integrated treatment approach developed to address the challenging mixture of organic pollutants, heavy metals, colour, odour and other contaminants found in landfill leachate.

Landfill leachate forms when water passes through deposited waste and carries dissolved and suspended contaminants into the collection system. Its composition can vary substantially with landfill age, waste type, rainfall and operating conditions. LeachOxy™ combines oxidation, catalytic treatment, pH conditioning, filtration and adsorption to support contaminant reduction before discharge or downstream membrane treatment. The brochure references several treatment components—including MagnetSorb™, OXYDES-P™, OrganoSorb™ and PMOF-coated ActiveSorb-CX™—that may be configured according to the analysed leachate composition and required effluent quality.

Membrane Pretreatment

Reduces selected foulants and suspended contaminants before reverse-osmosis or other membrane-treatment stages.

PFAS & Micropollutant Polishing

Multi-Barrier Process

Suggested Treatment Sequence

Step-by-step multi-barrier workflow from leachate characterisation to final verification and membrane treatment.

LeachOxy™ Treatment Stages
Stage Process Description
Stage 1 — Leachate CharacterisationMeasure pH, conductivity, alkalinity, COD, BOD, TOC, ammonium, metals, colour, suspended solids, PFAS and other site-specific contaminants.
Stage 2 — Conditioning & MagnetSorb™Condition the leachate, support metal precipitation and reduce suspended contaminants through catalytic-media filtration.
Stage 3 — OxidationApply a compatible oxidizing process to transform selected organic contaminants. Oxidant demand and residual oxidant must be monitored.
Stage 4 — OrganoSorb™ AdsorptionAdsorb residual dissolved organic compounds and oxidation by-products that remain after primary treatment.
Stage 5 — ActiveSorb-CX™ / PMOF PolishingProvide a final adsorption barrier for selected micropollutants, PFAS or other contaminants identified during water analysis.
Stage 6 — Final Verification / MembraneConfirm that treated water meets intended discharge, sewer-acceptance, reuse or membrane-feed requirements.

Four complementary technologies / For advanced leachate treatment

MAG

Conditioning, Catalysis and Filtration (MAGNETSORB)

MagnetSorb™ is presented as a glass-coated catalytic filtration medium that supports pH conditioning, turbidity reduction and the adsorption or precipitation of selected contaminants.

OXY

Advanced Oxidation Support (OXY-TREATMENT)

The oxidation stage is designed to transform susceptible organic pollutants and improve their removal during downstream filtration or adsorption.

ORG

Organic-Contaminant Adsorption (ORGANOSORB)

OrganoSorb™ is identified as a downstream treatment stage for adsorbing residual organic contaminants after initial conditioning and catalytic treatment.

PMOF

Advanced Micropollutant Polishing (PMOF-ACTIVESORB)

PMOF-coated ActiveSorb-CX™ is proposed as a high-surface-area polishing medium for selected heavy metals, organic compounds, PFAS, 6PPD-related compounds and microplastics.

Science & Technology

LeachOxy™ combines several physical and chemical mechanisms because no single treatment process can reliably address every contaminant present in landfill leachate.

  • pH Conditioning and Precipitation – MagnetSorb™ conditions acidic leachate and supports pH stabilisation. Increasing pH under controlled conditions reduces the solubility of certain metals and promotes precipitation.
  • Catalytic Oxidation – Catalytic surfaces support oxidizer activation and accelerate reactions with susceptible organic compounds, breaking large or persistent molecules into smaller intermediates.
  • High-Surface-Area Adsorption – Porous filtration and adsorption media provide binding sites for selected dissolved contaminants based on pore structure, surface chemistry and contact time.
  • Advanced Polishing – PMOF-coated activated carbon provides a final polishing barrier designed to increase available binding sites for selected metals, persistent organics and PFAS.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Essential information about the LeachOxy™ treatment concept, its media components, operation and performance validation.

Contact Support
What is LeachOxy™?
LeachOxy™ is presented as an integrated leachate-treatment approach combining conditioning, catalytic oxidation, filtration and adsorption rather than as one standalone chemical.
What is landfill leachate?
Leachate is contaminated liquid produced when water passes through deposited waste. It may contain organic compounds, ammonia, salts, metals, suspended solids and persistent pollutants.
Which treatment components are used?
The brochure references MagnetSorb™, an oxidation stage, OrganoSorb™ and PMOF-coated ActiveSorb-CX™. The final configuration depends on the analysed water and treatment objective.
What is the role of MagnetSorb™?
MagnetSorb™ is described as a glass-coated catalytic filtration medium that can support pH conditioning, solids filtration, adsorption and selected metal-precipitation processes.
Can LeachOxy™ remove heavy metals?
Selected metals may be precipitated or adsorbed under controlled conditions. Performance depends on metal species, pH, concentration, competing ions and solids separation.
Can it remove COD and organic pollutants?
Oxidation and adsorption may reduce selected COD and organic compounds. Actual reduction depends on whether the COD is biodegradable, oxidisable, adsorbable or highly refractory.
Can LeachOxy™ remove PFAS?
The brochure proposes PMOF-coated ActiveSorb-CX™ for PFAS adsorption. Compound-specific capacity, breakthrough and disposal data are required before making performance guarantees.
Can the system remove microplastics?
Proper filtration may remove microplastic particles within a defined size range. Dissolved polymers and extremely small particles require separate validation.
Is the MagnetSorb™ media regenerable?
The brochure states that the media can be washed using a diluted OXYDES-P™ solution. Regeneration concentration, contact time, rinse requirements and waste handling must be defined in an approved procedure.
Can MagnetSorb™ operate for five to seven years?
The brochure presents this as a potential service life. Actual life depends on contaminant loading, hydraulic conditions, regeneration efficiency, abrasion and irreversible fouling.
Can the system be installed before reverse osmosis?
Yes, it may function as pretreatment. However, residual oxidant, turbidity, SDI, metals, hardness and dissolved organics must meet the membrane manufacturer’s feedwater limits.
How is the correct system configuration determined?
A representative leachate analysis, treatability study and pilot test are required. Landfill leachate is highly variable, so a universal configuration cannot be recommended reliably.
