ACTIVESORB® 200

High-performance coal-based catalytic activated carbon with regenerable treatment technology

Regenerable Activated Carbon

Powerful adsorption. Catalytic performance. Extended media life.

ACTIVESORB® 200 is a high-activity granular activated carbon manufactured from selected bituminous coal for demanding drinking-water, process-water, food and beverage, wastewater, and air-treatment applications.

Its developed pore structure provides rapid adsorption kinetics and effective reduction of taste, odor, chlorine, chloramine, disinfection by-products and selected dissolved organic contaminants. Water-washed processing supports faster wetting and reduced initial carbon dust. ACTIVESORB® 200 is also designed for use with Watch Water’s CarbonOxy R® regeneration technology, offering the potential to extend media service life and reduce activated-carbon replacement requirements when regeneration is validated for the specific contaminant loading and application.

A200

Broad Pore-Structure Adsorption (ADSORB-200™)

Coal-based activated carbon provides a developed distribution of pores for adsorption of taste- and odor-causing substances, trace organic compounds and selected disinfection by-products.

CR

Catalytic Disinfectant Reduction (CATA-REDUCE™)

Catalytic surface activity supports the reduction of free chlorine and chloramine when the filter provides appropriate empty-bed contact time and operating conditions.

AW

Water-Washed Clean Start (AQUA-WASH™)

Water-washed processing promotes rapid wetting and helps reduce initial dust and carbon fines during filter startup.

CC

Regeneration-Ready Performance (CARBON-CYCLE™)

The media is presented for regeneration using Watch Water’s CarbonOxy R® technology, with the objective of restoring useful treatment capacity and reducing replacement frequency.

Science & Technology

ACTIVESORB® 200 combines a coal-derived pore network, high internal surface area, catalytic functionality and strong physical properties for demanding water and environmental purification processes.

  • Bituminous Coal-Based Structure – Selected bituminous coal provides a broad internal pore structure capable of adsorbing organic molecules across a wider range of molecular sizes.
  • High Internal Surface Area – A typical BET surface area of approximately 1,050 m²/g provides a large internal interface for adsorption.
  • Adsorption and Catalytic Reduction – Organic contaminants are primarily retained through adsorption, while chlorine and chloramine are reduced through reactions occurring at the activated-carbon surface.
  • Physical Strength and Regeneration Potential – A published minimum hardness of 95% supports fixed-bed operation. Regeneration may extend service life when the process is compatible with the contaminants accumulated by the media.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Important information about ACTIVESORB® 200 applications, specifications, installation, operation and regeneration.

Contact Support
What is ACTIVESORB® 200?
ACTIVESORB® 200 is a granular, high-activity catalytic activated carbon manufactured from selected bituminous coal.
Which contaminants can it help reduce?
It is designed for taste, odor, chlorine, chloramine, selected disinfection by-products and adsorbable organic contaminants. Removal performance depends on contaminant properties, concentration, contact time and water chemistry.
Is ACTIVESORB® 200 suitable for drinking water?
The manufacturer presents it for drinking-water applications and states compliance with NSF/ANSI 61. The current certification and exact certified product grade should be verified before making a formal compliance claim.
Can it be used in food and beverage production?
Yes, it is promoted for food and beverage process-water treatment. Applicable food-contact and local regulatory requirements must be confirmed for each market.
What is its iodine number?
The published iodine number is a minimum of 1,000 mg/g.
What is its typical surface area?
The brochure lists a typical BET surface area of 1,050 m²/g.
Which particle sizes are available?
Published grades include 8×16, 8×30, 10×20, 12×40 and 20×40 mesh. Other sizes may be available upon request.
What is the standard particle size?
The webpage identifies 12×40 mesh, corresponding to approximately 1.70–0.425 mm, as the standard grade.
Does the media require rinsing before use?
Yes. The carbon should be wetted and rinsed or backwashed using an approved startup procedure until displaced air and loose carbon fines are removed.
How does CarbonOxy R® regeneration work?
Watch Water states that ACTIVESORB® 200 can be regenerated using its CarbonOxy R® technology. Detailed operating chemistry, equipment, safety requirements and performance-restoration data should be provided in a dedicated regeneration procedure.
How long does ACTIVESORB® 200 last?
Service life depends on contaminant loading, flow rate, contact time, pretreatment and the defined breakthrough limit. Routine testing should determine when replacement or regeneration is required.
How should spent carbon be handled?
Spent carbon may contain concentrated contaminants. It must be sampled, classified and regenerated or disposed of according to the contaminants present and applicable waste regulations.
