Legio-Oxy®

Catalytic oxidation treatment for professional Legionella control in engineered water systems

Legionella Control

Treat the water / Disrupt the biofilm / Control the complete system

Legio-Oxy® is a powdered, three-component catalytic oxidation formulation developed for professional remediation of Legionella-contaminated water systems.

Legio-Oxy® combines an oxygen-releasing component, a heterogeneous titanium-based catalyst and a surface activator. After preparing a concentrated solution, the formulation is dosed into the circulating system to generate hydrogen peroxide and reactive oxygen species intended to damage Legionella cells and associated biofilm. Treatment must form part of a complete water-safety programme that includes risk assessment, temperature and flow management, cleaning, flushing, validated sampling and long-term verification. A one-time chemical treatment cannot replace continuous system control.

Rapid oxidative remediation / Long-term water-system management

Legio-Oxy Introduction

Professional Legionella control across engineered water systems

Legio-Oxy® should only be used by trained personnel within applications covered by its current registration, approved label and site-specific risk assessment.

Hospitals & Care Facilities

Professional treatment of high-risk water systems under infection-control and water-safety supervision.

Schools, Colleges & Kindergartens

Treatment support following stagnation, shutdown, contamination or failure of routine water-management controls.

Apartments, Offices & Shopping Centres

Applicable to large building-water systems containing storage tanks, circulation loops and low-use outlets.

Cooling Towers & Evaporative Systems

Potential use in aerosol-generating cooling systems where specifically authorised and integrated into a formal control programme.

Public & Government Buildings

Supports controlled system remediation before reopening or after confirmed Legionella contamination.

Four complementary functions / For controlled Legionella remediation

H₂O₂

Hydrogen-Peroxide Generation (OXY-RELEASE)

The oxygen-source component releases hydrogen peroxide after preparation in water, providing the basis for oxidative treatment.

TS

Heterogeneous Titanium Catalyst (CATALYTIC-ACTIVATION)

The Titansorb-based catalyst is intended to accelerate peroxide decomposition and reactive oxygen-species formation.

WET

Biofilm Wetting and Penetration (SURFACE-CONTACT)

A surface-active component improves contact between the treatment solution, system surfaces and accessible biofilm.

CTRL

Circulating Oxidative Treatment (SYSTEM-REMEDIATION)

Controlled circulation distributes the treatment through accessible parts of the water system before flushing and verification.

Science & Technology

Legio-Oxy® is designed to combine peroxide chemistry, catalytic activation and surface contact to inactivate susceptible microorganisms and disrupt accessible biofilm.

  • Hydrogen-Peroxide Release – Prepared solution releases hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$), an oxidizer that damages proteins, membranes and microbial structures.
  • Catalytic Decomposition – A heterogeneous catalyst promotes peroxide decomposition and reactive oxygen-species formation (pathway depends on catalyst, pH and water composition).
  • Microbial Inactivation – Oxidative damage reduces viable Legionella cells by disrupting cellular components and enzyme systems (efficacy depends on concentration, contact time and temperature).
  • Biofilm Treatment – Legionella persists within biofilms and amoebae; effective remediation requires cleaning, hydraulic access and sufficient disinfectant exposure throughout the system.

Contact Support
What is Legio-Oxy®?
Legio-Oxy® is a powdered catalytic oxidation formulation intended for professional remediation of Legionella-contaminated engineered water systems.
How does Legio-Oxy® work?
It releases hydrogen peroxide and uses a heterogeneous catalyst to promote reactive oxygen chemistry that can damage Legionella cells and accessible biofilm.
Can it eradicate Legionella in 30 minutes?
The brochure makes this claim, but it should only be used if supported by a recognised efficacy test matching the stated concentration, temperature and contact time.
Does one treatment prevent Legionella from returning?
No permanent guarantee should be made. Regrowth can occur if stagnation, temperature, biofilm and poor circulation are not corrected.
Is Legio-Oxy® suitable for drinking-water systems?
Only if the complete formulation is currently approved for that use and the system is flushed to an authorised residual before occupants use the water.
Can it treat cooling towers?
Only where authorised for that system type and incorporated into the cooling tower’s formal water-treatment and monitoring programme.
Does it remove biofilm?
Oxidation and surfactant contact may disrupt accessible biofilm, but thick or established deposits may require mechanical cleaning and repeated treatment.
What is Legiotest®?
The brochure describes it as a rapid on-site Legionella screening test. Screening results should not automatically replace accredited regulatory culture testing.
How quickly are laboratory results available?
Traditional culture methods can require several days. PCR and other methods may be faster, but interpretation and regulatory acceptance differ.
Is specialist training required?
Yes. Legionella risk assessment, chemical dosing, sampling and system restart require competent personnel, even if the product is comparatively simple to prepare.
Can Legio-Oxy® be mixed with chlorine?
No. It should never be mixed directly with chlorine, acids or other disinfectants unless an approved compatibility procedure explicitly permits it.
How is successful treatment verified?
Confirm active concentration throughout treatment, then perform accredited post-treatment Legionella sampling and continue long-term water-management controls.
