IN-TANK TREATMENT® (ITT)

Gravity-driven water circulation and configurable media treatment inside storage tanks

Storage-Tank Water Treatment

Keep stored water moving / Treat it inside the tank

IN-TANK TREATMENT® combines gravity-driven circulation with selectable Watch Water® media to condition stored water before it enters a home or building.

Roof, ground-level and underground storage tanks can develop water-quality problems when turnover is poor, tanks are not cleaned regularly or disinfectant residual is lost. IN-TANK TREATMENT® is designed for installation in compatible new or existing storage tanks. Its hydraulic arrangement encourages water movement through a selected treatment-media configuration before water leaves the tank. Available ITT-1, ITT-2 and ITT-3 configurations allow treatment to be adapted to the tank, inlet-water analysis and required finished-water quality.

Circulation plus treatment / Inside one storage tank

IN-TANK TREATMENT Introduction

One configurable platform.
Multiple storage-tank installations.

Developed for buildings that receive municipal or otherwise approved water through an intermediate storage tank before daily distribution.

Rooftop Storage Tanks

Treatment and circulation inside compatible tanks installed on roofs.

Under-Roof Tanks

Water conditioning for storage tanks installed within protected building spaces.

Ground-Level Tanks

Integration into above-ground domestic and commercial water-storage systems.

Underground Storage Tanks

Treatment for accessible underground tanks with suitable plumbing and maintenance provisions.

Whole-House Water Supply

Central conditioning before stored water is distributed for drinking, cooking, bathing and general use.

New and Existing Tanks

Adaptable configurations for appropriately designed new installations and technically suitable retrofits.

Four functions / Integrated into one tank-treatment concept

GF

Passive Hydraulic Operation (GRAVITY-FLOW)

The treatment concept uses the storage tank’s inlet and outlet arrangement to move water through the treatment section without relying solely on a conventional pressurized media vessel.

TC

Improved Water Movement (TANK-CIRCULATION)

The proposed inlet and outlet layout is intended to reduce poorly mixed zones and improve water turnover within the storage tank.

MM

Configurable Treatment Media (MULTI-MIX)

Different Watch Water® filtration and adsorption media can be selected according to a laboratory water analysis and validated treatment objective.

RF

New or Existing Tank Installation (RETROFIT-FLEX)

ITT configurations are presented for suitable rooftop, indoor, ground-level and underground storage tanks.

How IN-TANK TREATMENT works

The system combines improved tank hydraulics with selectable media treatment, but it must operate as part of a complete storage-tank hygiene and water-safety program.

  • Water Turnover – A correctly positioned inlet and outlet can promote better mixing and reduce regions where stored water remains unused for long periods.
  • Media Contact – Water passes through or around the selected media configuration, allowing filtration or adsorption according to the medium’s independently validated function.
  • Gravity-Driven Operation – The system operates without a dedicated treatment pump or electrical control, subject to sufficient hydraulic head and correct tank design.
  • Finished-Water Verification – Treatment effectiveness must be confirmed through sampling because performance varies with contaminant loading, contact time, media volume, tank turnover and water chemistry.

Contact Support
What is IN-TANK TREATMENT®?
It is a configurable treatment concept that combines storage-tank hydraulics with selected filtration or adsorption media.
Which tanks can use the system?
The brochure identifies rooftop, under-roof, ground-level and underground tanks. An engineering inspection is required to confirm structural, hydraulic and access compatibility.
Does water movement alone make stored water safe?
No. Improved movement may reduce stagnant zones, but it does not remove every chemical contaminant or reliably disinfect the water.
Does the system require electricity?
The brochure presents a gravity-driven concept without electricity. Actual feasibility depends on the available hydraulic head, flow demand and pressure-loss characteristics.
Can the system replace tank cleaning?
No. The tank must still be inspected, cleaned and disinfected according to an established maintenance program.
Can one media mixture remove every contaminant?
No. Media must be selected for the verified water-quality concern, and different contaminants may require separate treatment stages.
Does activated carbon remove every contaminant?
No. Activated carbon is effective for certain organic compounds and disinfectants but is not a universal treatment for microorganisms, salts or every metal.
Can the system remove bacteria and viruses?
A microbiological claim requires validated testing of the complete system. Adsorption and fine filtration should not automatically be described as disinfection.
What are ITT-1, ITT-2 and ITT-3?
They are system configurations illustrated in the brochure. Their capacities, tank-size ranges and component differences need to be documented in a technical data sheet.
How is the correct medium selected?
Selection begins with a complete laboratory analysis, tank inspection, daily demand, tank turnover, inlet flow and required finished-water quality.
How frequently should the media be replaced?
Replacement depends on contaminant loading, media capacity, contact time and water consumption. Outlet testing should determine breakthrough rather than time alone.
Can treated tank water automatically be called drinking water?
No. Finished water can only be described as potable after the system, tank hygiene and analytical results comply with applicable drinking-water requirements.
Tank Turnover Tool

Calculate Storage Tank Turnover Rate

Estimate storage tank water turnover time based on tank volume and daily water usage.

Lower turnover rates (longer time to empty/refill) increase the importance of in-tank treatment and hygiene maintenance.
