SOFT-NO-R® Commercial Units

Salt-free commercial scale prevention powered by FILTERSORB® SP3

Commercial Scale Prevention

Prevent scale / Preserve beneficial minerals

SOFT-NO-R® Commercial Units provide salt-free hardness conditioning for commercial buildings, equipment and water-distribution systems using FILTERSORB® SP3 nucleation-assisted crystallization technology.

The system transforms dissolved temporary-hardness components into stable microscopic calcium-carbonate crystals that remain suspended and pass through the water system. Unlike conventional ion-exchange softeners, SOFT-NO-R® does not remove calcium and magnesium or replace them with sodium. Its up-flow configuration operates without a control valve, electricity, salt, brine regeneration, backwashing or regeneration wastewater. Systems are available for individual installations and high-flow, parallel-tank configurations.

No salt / No brine / No electricity / No backwash

Science behind salt-free scale prevention

FILTERSORB® SP3 conditions temporary carbonate hardness through heterogeneous nucleation and crystallization rather than ion exchange or mineral removal.

  • Nucleation Sites – The media surface provides sites where calcium-carbonate crystal formation can begin under suitable water-chemistry conditions.
  • Crystal Growth and Release – Microscopic crystals form at the bead surface, grow and are released into the flowing water instead of remaining attached to the media.
  • Non-Adherent Mineral Form – Conditioned calcium carbonate remains suspended and passes through the system, reducing its tendency to form hard deposits on downstream surfaces.
  • Mineral Preservation – Calcium and magnesium remain in the water because the process does not remove hardness ions through conventional sodium-based ion exchange.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Important information about system selection, operation, water requirements and maintenance.

Contact Support
What is a SOFT-NO-R® Commercial Unit?
It is an up-flow scale-prevention system containing FILTERSORB® SP3 media for conditioning temporary carbonate hardness.
Does the system soften water?
It does not soften water through ion exchange. Calcium and magnesium remain measurable in the treated water, but temporary-hardness components are conditioned to reduce their scale-forming tendency.
Does it require salt or a brine tank?
No. The system does not use salt, brine or chemical regeneration.
Does the system require electricity?
No electrical control valve is required for normal passive operation.
Does it require backwashing?
The commercial units are designed for up-flow operation without a routine backwash cycle, provided the inlet-water requirements are maintained.
What flow rates are available?
The brochure lists individual and parallel configurations ranging from 0.4 to 170 m³/h.
What pressure and temperature can the system handle?
The published range is 1-10 bar and 5-80°C. Final limits must also consider the selected vessel, head, distributors and other components.
What is the acceptable inlet-water pH?
The brochure specifies a pH range of 6.5-9.5.
Is pretreatment required?
It may be required for sediment, iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide, chlorine, copper, hydrocarbons, oil and grease.
Can it treat microbiologically unsafe water?
No. Water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality requires adequate disinfection before or after the unit.
How long does the media last?
The brochure states up to 5-7 years. Actual service life depends on water chemistry, flow, operating time, pretreatment and system sizing.
How should the correct model be selected?
Selection should be based on peak and continuous flow, hardness, temperature, pH, contaminant concentrations, plumbing size and the complete water analysis. Flow must not exceed the selected model’s published maximum.
