SPECIAL-CC® combines catalytic coconut-shell activated carbon with FILTERSORB® SP3 scale-prevention media.
The catalytic-carbon stage supports the reduction of free chlorine, chloramine, taste, odor, selected disinfection by-products and adsorbable organic compounds. FILTERSORB® SP3 uses nucleation-assisted crystallization to help reduce hard-scale attachment without adding sodium or phosphate. The system retains naturally occurring calcium and magnesium and operates without electricity, brine regeneration or backwashing. A quick-change cartridge connection and automatic water shut-off simplify point-of-use installation and maintenance.

Catalytic Carbon Filtration (CATALYTIC-C™)
Iron-modified coconut-shell activated carbon supports faster chloramine reduction than conventional activated carbon while also treating chlorine, taste, odor and selected organic compounds.
Nucleation-Assisted Crystallization (SCALE-GUARD SP3™)
FILTERSORB® SP3 promotes formation of microscopic calcium-carbonate crystals with a reduced tendency to attach to heating elements, pipes and equipment surfaces.
Natural Mineral Retention (MINERAL-KEEP™)
Unlike ion-exchange softening, the cartridge does not intentionally remove calcium and magnesium or replace them with sodium.
Fast, Clean Cartridge Exchange (QUICK-LOCK CC™)
The quick-change connection, automatic water shut-off and 3/8-inch push-fit connections simplify installation and cartridge replacement.
Science & Technology
SPECIAL-CC® combines two distinct treatment mechanisms: catalytic adsorption for water-quality improvement and nucleation-assisted crystallization for scale prevention.
- Catalytic Chloramine Reduction – Catalytic carbon increases the rate of reactions occurring at the carbon surface, supporting chloramine and free-chlorine reduction when adequate contact time is provided.
- Organic Adsorption – The activated carbon’s internal pore structure adsorbs suitable taste-, odor- and organic compounds (performance varies by molecular properties, concentration and contact time).
- Calcium-Carbonate Crystallization – FILTERSORB® SP3 promotes conversion of temporary hardness into microscopic crystals that remain suspended rather than readily attaching to equipment surfaces.
- Mineral-Preserving Scale Management – The process manages scale behavior without ion exchange, salt regeneration, phosphate addition or a backwash wastewater stream.
