ROSOFT®

Salt-Free Scale Control for High-Recovery RO Systems

RO Pretreatment

Keep hardness soluble. Keep RO membranes productive.

ROSOFT® is a concentrated, instant-powder antiscalant developed to control mineral precipitation in reverse-osmosis membrane systems.

ROSOFT® is designed to inhibit scale-forming reactions in supersaturated RO concentrate streams. When correctly selected and dosed, it can help control calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, calcium phosphate, barium sulfate, strontium sulfate and certain metal-containing deposits. Unlike ion-exchange softening, ROSOFT® does not remove calcium and magnesium from the feed water. Instead, it interferes with crystal nucleation and growth while helping disperse fine particles so they are more likely to remain transportable in the concentrate stream. This can reduce dependence on salt-regenerated softening in technically suitable RO installations.

No brine regeneration / Controlled mineral precipitation

ROSOFT Introduction

One antiscalant platform.
Multiple RO feed-water sources.

ROSOFT® may be incorporated into membrane pretreatment programmes for different feed waters after a complete water analysis, recovery assessment and membrane-system projection.

Surface-Water RO

Scale-control support for membrane systems treating properly clarified and filtered surface water.

Brackish-Water RO

Inhibits mineral precipitation as dissolved salts become concentrated across the membrane system.

Wastewater-Reuse RO

Supports reliable membrane operation where reclaimed water contains variable hardness, alkalinity and scaling ions.

Seawater RO

Application-specific control of mineral precipitation in seawater desalination pretreatment.

Multi-Pass RO Systems

Helps manage supersaturation in suitably designed two- or three-pass membrane configurations.

Industrial Process-Water RO

Scale-control support for industrial water production, reuse and high-recovery RO installations.

Four scale-management functions / In one instant powder

N

Delayed crystal formation (NUCLEATION-CONTROL)

Interferes with the early formation of scale crystals, helping water remain supersaturated without immediate precipitation under validated operating conditions.

C

Crystal-growth modification (CRYSTAL-GUARD)

Adsorbs at active growth sites and alters normal crystal development, making deposits less likely to form dense, adherent membrane scale.

D

Fine-particle dispersion (DISPERSION-ACTIVE)

Helps keep susceptible particles and modified crystals dispersed so they can travel with the concentrate rather than accumulate on membrane surfaces.

R

High-recovery RO operation (RECOVERY-SUPPORT)

Provides application-specific scale control that may support increased recovery, reduced cleaning frequency and more stable permeate production.

How ROSOFT® controls mineral scale

ROSOFT® manages precipitation kinetics rather than removing hardness ions. Its performance depends on water chemistry, antiscalant concentration, recovery, temperature, pH and membrane operating conditions.

  • Threshold Inhibition – Small antiscalant concentrations delay precipitation even when scale-forming ions exceed normal solubility limits.
  • Crystal-Growth Interference – Active molecules adsorb onto developing crystal surfaces and disrupt orderly growth, reducing compact scale.
  • Deposit Dispersion – Modified crystals and suspended metal-containing particles are stabilized and dispersed to limit surface attachment.
  • Concentrate-Stream Management – Scale-forming ions remain in water and become concentrated as permeate is produced, leaving through the RO concentrate stream.

Asked Questions

Contact Support
What is ROSOFT®?
ROSOFT® is an instant-powder antiscalant designed to inhibit mineral-scale formation in RO membrane systems.
Does ROSOFT® soften water?
No. It does not remove calcium or magnesium like an ion-exchange softener. It controls their precipitation within a defined operating range.
Can ROSOFT® replace a water softener?
It may replace softening as RO pretreatment in suitable systems after a complete water analysis and scale projection. It is not a universal replacement for every softening application.
Which scales can ROSOFT® control?
The brochure identifies calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, calcium phosphate, barium sulfate, strontium sulfate and certain metal-containing deposits.
What is the recommended dosage?
The brochure gives an indicative range of 3–6 mg/L. The final dose must be determined from the complete water chemistry and proposed RO recovery.
Does ROSOFT® remove bacteria and viruses?
No disinfection claim should be made without an approved biocidal active substance and efficacy data. ROSOFT® should be presented primarily as an antiscalant and dispersant.
Does it prevent biofouling?
An antiscalant alone cannot guarantee biofouling control. Biofouling requires source control, hygienic operation, suitable pretreatment and an approved microbial-management programme.
Can ROSOFT® be used with seawater RO?
Potentially, subject to a seawater-specific projection, membrane compatibility and validation under the actual salinity and temperature.
Can it support higher RO recovery?
It may support higher recovery when scale projections remain within validated product limits. Recovery must not be increased without modeling and operational verification.
How is the powder prepared for dosing?
Dissolve it gradually in suitable make-up water while mixing, using the concentration and procedure specified in the current TDS.
How can operators confirm that ROSOFT® is working?
Monitor normalized permeate flow, differential pressure, salt passage, recovery, concentrate chemistry and membrane-cleaning frequency.
Does ROSOFT® require regeneration?
No. It is continuously dosed and leaves with the concentrate stream. The product is consumed rather than regenerated like ion-exchange resin.
