ZEOSORB®

High-performance natural filtration media for exceptional water clarity

Advanced Natural Filtration

Replace conventional sand / Transform filtration performance

ZEOSORB® is a high-purity natural aluminosilicate filtration medium engineered for drinking water, wastewater and industrial process-water applications.

The microporous structure and large specific surface area of ZEOSORB® provide fine mechanical filtration combined with selective cation adsorption. Compared with conventional sand, anthracite and multimedia filtration, ZEOSORB® can deliver finer nominal filtration, greater solids-loading capacity and higher service velocities. Its rough, porous granules capture suspended solids, sediment and turbidity while also providing active sites for selected positively charged contaminants, including ammonium and certain dissolved metals. ZEOSORB® can replace conventional sand or multimedia in many pressure and gravity filtration systems without requiring a larger filtration footprint. Its lower bulk density, high water retention and effective backwash cleaning can reduce backwash frequency and water consumption.

Natural mineral / Advanced filtration performance

ZEOSORB Introduction

One natural media.
Multiple filtration applications.

ZEOSORB® can be installed in pressure vessels and gravity filters for municipal, commercial and industrial applications. Final system design should consider raw-water turbidity, particle-size distribution, treatment objectives, service flow and available backwash capacity.

Municipal and Industrial Filtration

High-rate filtration of turbidity, suspended solids and fine particles.

RO and UF Pretreatment

Reduction of turbidity and Silt Density Index before membrane systems.

Cooling-Tower Makeup Water

Fine filtration of river, surface or recycled makeup water.

Ammonium Reduction

Selective adsorption of ammonium from municipal, agricultural and process water.

Water Reuse and Produced Water

Filtration following clarification, oil separation, oxidation or biological treatment.

Food, Beverage and Pharmaceutical Water

Pretreatment and polishing for processes requiring consistently low turbidity.

Four filtration advantages engineered into one media

MF

Fine-particle filtration

The irregular microporous granules create complex filtration pathways that capture suspended solids, sediment and turbidity, providing nominal filtration below 3 microns under properly designed operating conditions.

CC

Selective cation adsorption

The negatively charged aluminosilicate structure provides affinity for selected positively charged ions, including ammonium and certain dissolved metals. Capacity depends on water chemistry and competing ions.

HF

High hydraulic throughput

ZEOSORB® supports higher service velocities than many conventional sand and multimedia beds, allowing increased plant capacity without necessarily increasing the filtration footprint.

EB

Efficient bed cleaning

Dynamic bed movement during backwashing releases accumulated solids from the granular surface. High loading capacity can extend filtration runs and reduce backwash frequency.

Microporous mineral technology for high-rate filtration

ZEOSORB® is a naturally occurring aluminosilicate mineral with an interconnected pore structure, high surface area and permanent negative framework charge.

  • Microporous Structure – The natural pore network creates a large internal and external contact area for particle retention and cation adsorption.
  • Large Specific Surface Area – A published surface area above 270 m²/g provides substantially more contact area than conventional quartz sand.
  • Selective Cation Affinity – Negatively charged aluminosilicate sites can capture selected cations such as ammonium and certain metal ions.
  • High Solids-Loading Capacity – The rough, porous surface retains more suspended material between backwash cycles than conventional sand-based filtration.

Contact Support
What is ZEOSORB®?
ZEOSORB® is a high-purity natural aluminosilicate mineral media manufactured for fine filtration and selective cation adsorption in drinking-water, wastewater and industrial systems.
How does ZEOSORB® work?
Its rough, microporous granules physically retain suspended particles while negatively charged aluminosilicate sites adsorb selected positively charged ions.
How fine can ZEOSORB® filter?
The brochure publishes a nominal filtration rating below 3 microns for the 18 × 35 mesh grade. Actual performance depends on bed depth, service velocity, influent particle distribution and operating conditions.
Which particle sizes are available?
The published grades are 0.6–1.5 mm, corresponding to 18 × 35 mesh, and 1.5–2.5 mm, corresponding to 14 × 30 mesh.
Can ZEOSORB® replace conventional sand or multimedia?
Yes, in many existing pressure and gravity filters. Hydraulic compatibility, distributor design, bed depth, freeboard and backwash capacity must be checked before replacement.
What is the recommended service velocity?
The published range is 15–48 m/h. Approximately 29 m/h is suggested for RO or GAC prefiltration, while higher rates may be used for less demanding filtration objectives.
How often should ZEOSORB® be backwashed?
Backwashing should be based on differential pressure, filtration time, treated-water volume or filtrate turbidity. The brochure specifies a backwash velocity of approximately 25–50 m/h.
Can ZEOSORB® remove ammonium?
Yes. Natural aluminosilicate can selectively capture ammonium ions. Capacity depends strongly on competing cations and must be confirmed through water-specific testing.
Can saturated ZEOSORB® be regenerated?
For ammonium applications, regeneration may be possible using an appropriately designed sodium- or potassium-salt solution. The regenerant waste must be collected and managed correctly.
Is ZEOSORB® suitable for drinking-water applications?
The current brochure states certification to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372. Certification status and exact product listing should be verified before displaying certification marks.
What is the expected media life?
The brochure lists an anticipated filter-bed life of approximately 10 years. Actual life depends on abrasion, fouling, backwashing, chemical exposure and contaminant loading.
Does ZEOSORB® disinfect water or guarantee pathogen removal?
No. It must not be used as a substitute for validated disinfection or an approved microbiological barrier. Unsafe or unknown-quality water requires suitable disinfection.
